Yes, Colorado just made pot legal, and yes, multiple news sources are confirming that a two-year-old did indeed test positive for THC in Longmont, Colorado after being taken to the hospital by her mother after allegedly eating a pot cookie she found in the yard, and yes, as you expected Fox News is completely freaking out over it: Bill O’Reilly style.
O’Reilly sat a little taller in his “I Told You So” chair tonight as he began spouting off about how he predicted legalizing pot would have “harsh consequences for the nation” and calling Colorado’s new laws a “pot folly,” using the story of the two-year-old Colorado girl to show the HORRORS OF POT (Cue scary music, growling monsters, and screeching music).
The O’Reilly freakout train was barely kept from derailing off the tracks into freakout-ville by Alan Colmes, who despite every attempt by O’Reilly to blame it on misguided law and the evils of drugs, was able to get in a few words edgewise to the contrary and place the “blame” more in line where it should be.
It’s really about parenting, though,” said Colmes to O’Reilly. “It’s not about whether or not marijuana should be legal or illegal. There’s no guarantee this would be any different if the law were different in Colorado.”
But of course, O’Reilly couldn’t stand for this being boiled down to something as simple as “hey parents, watch your kids a little better because it could have been a beer can, a lit cigarette or even piece of glass,” no he had to further try to demonize the new pot laws in Colorado by arguing that “experts” had said Colorado’s new laws would lead to “more emergency room visits among children, more addiction in children and a surge in DUIs.”
Funny, I wonder if this had been the case of a toddler picking up a gun and shooting her mother by accident if O’Reilly would be advocating for guns to be illegal? Or at least advocating for stricter gun controls, right? Right?
