Devout “Christian” Mike Huckabee was a guest on Your World with Neil Cavuto Friday to discuss Israel’s “Iron Dome” and the rush by the Senate on Friday to approve an additional $225 million to reinforce it before heading out for the summer break.
Cavuto asked Huckabee to weigh in on the condemnation of Israel by the U.N. for its indiscriminate attacks on the Gaza strip where the death toll in the current hostilities is a lopsided 100 to 1 in Israel’s favor, with at least two U.N. schools being hit by Israeli rockets in the last week.
Predictably, Huckabee began his rant with an attack on the U.N.:
“The big mistake is that the U.S. is still giving a dime to the United Nations. This organization has so embarrassed itself.”
Huckabee’s claim is a distortion of remarks made by Navi Pillay, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights last Thursday when she said that Israel is once again defying international law and the Geneva Conventions, taken directly from the distorted reports on those remarks by Breitbart and the rest of the right wing blogosphere.
Pillay also condemned violations by Hamas however that part of her comments were conveniently overlooked, to include them would destroy their claim that the U.N. is blatantly biased against the U.S. and Israel.
What Pillay did say about the U.S. according to Reuters was:
“Many of my remarks have been directed to the United States since they are a party with influence over Israel to do much more to stop the killing, to bring the parties to the negotiating table. I’ve called also for an end to the blockade and an end to the occupation.
They have not only provided the heavy weaponry which is now being used by Israel in Gaza but they’ve also provided almost $1 billion in providing the ‘Iron Domes’ to protect the Israels from rocket attacks. But no such protection has been provided to Gazans against the shelling.”
Huckabee is appalled that Hamas is “indiscriminately firing their rockets” into Israel but seems to be completely unconcerned that Israel is doing exactly the same thing when it fires into Gaza.
“This is not a good guy versus good guy,” Huckabee said. “This is good guy, bad guy, there is a clear difference here, there is not symmetry.”
We can all agree on the lack of symmetry, but claiming that it is a “real plus for Israel that they are being condemned by idiots at the U.N.” is completely ignoring which side is favored by that lack of symmetry.
