It’s time for a little game of “spot the differences.” You probably remember how this game is played; there are two pictures, side by side, and you have to find all the differences between them. Coloring books and activity books for children often have games like this. So, are you ready?
Here you go; you have 5 seconds, spot all the differences:
Did you find them all? Because if you’re a right-winger, you apparently didn’t see any.
This meme, which is probably just one of the many, many over the top memes comparing “Democrat X” to Adolf Hitler, was retrieved from Facebook. Now, right-wingers are notorious for their contrived and down right stupid Holocaust/Hitler analogies, but this one right here also sums up how terrified they are of Hillary Clinton.
And regardless how you may feel about Clinton herself personally (I know more than a few liberals who have no love for her or her husband), you should still find this pretty outrageous, in addition to being a sad joke. The point is to compare the two: Hitler was a socialist because his party said so, and Clinton is a socialist because reasons (It’s time for us to think about the world and society we live in, so that totally makes her a socialist), so OMG they’re totally alike, you guys!
I mean, I can find dozens of quotes of Hitler supporting Christianity. Does that mean that all Christians are suddenly Nazis? And North Korea totally refers to itself as a Democratic People’s Republic, so clearly North Korea is a democracy, because they said so.
One thing to keep in mind is that Nazism, Hitler’s philosophy, lacks a coherent ideology. It’s steeped in mysticism, tied together by eugenics and racism, wrapped in the traditional fascist beliefs of nationalism, jingosim, exceptionalism, and shoved under the State’s Christmas Tree, since religion is quintessential for most types of fascism. Nazism is unique among fascist ideologies for those reasons. Clinton just doesn’t strike me as having the sort of misplaced nationalism and faith in national exceptionalism required to go marching into Ethiopia to rebuild the glory of the Roman Empire, or to retake Sudetenland for the Fatherland.
Now, the teabaggers who likely made this meme?
Well, that’s a different story.
