Dr. Sheldon Cooper is always quick to point out that “once, maybe twice in a generation, a mind like [his] comes along.” Sheldon is a fictional character of course, but this stunning video not only brought tears to my eyes, it also made me think of Hillary Clinton in Sheldon’s frame of reference. All I could think about was, once maybe twice in a generation, a brilliant, bold, and “kick ass” leader comes along.
Ladies and gentlemen, Hillary is the real deal.
This video clip, taken way back in 2009, shows then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, responding to a question about the role of U.S. government supporting access to safe abortion, contraception, maternal health care and education abroad with a no-nonsense and humbling (for questioner Rep. Christopher Smith (R-NJ) defense of reproductive rights and family planning.
Hillary Clinton is a force of nature. She is an Amazon warrior in a Joe McCarthy political environment. Her story is truly one of the most admirable in the annals of United States history.
Hillary Diane Rodham, Dorothy and Hugh Rodham’s first child, was born on October 26, 1947. She excelled in academics, delivered the student commencement speech at Wellesley in 1969. She entered Yale Law School, where she served on the Board of Editors of Yale Law Review and Social Action. She joined the faculty of the University of Arkansas Law School in 1975 and the Rose Law Firm in 1976. In 1978, President Jimmy Carter appointed her to the board of the Legal Services Corporation. During this time she also served as the First Lady of Arkansas for eight years, then First Lady of the United States for eight years, then United States Senator from New York, and followed that up by serving as US Secretary of State.
Beyond all of those remarkable accomplishments though, Hillary is a fighter. We all remember her strength during her stunning leadership of health care reform, the Whitewater witch hunt, the “Monicagate” nightmare, and the right-wing created “Benghazi scandal.” That one, the “Benghazigate” congressional “investigation,” was her command performance though, as she emasculated such “brilliant” hit-men of the Republican party as Rand Paul, Ron Johnson, John McCain, and of course, Joe “you lie” Wilson.
And of course, there was the memorable moment in 1998, when she pointed to the existence of that “vast right-wing conspiracy.” Of course, she was totally ambushed a few days later by her husband’s publicly revealed dalliance, but as for the “vast right-wing conspiracy,” it turned out she was spot on!
No woman in the long history of the United States can stand on the same platform with Hillary Clinton in terms of continuing contributions to our democracy. She is a wunderkind, a force of will and determination, and a brilliant leader. I can’t wait for the next pipsqueak Republican to face off with her, during a congressional hearing. Somebody please pass the popcorn!
