Gitmo has a special place in the heart of conservatives. Their savior and beloved king, Dubya, made it a focal point in his war against all
Muslims in the Middle East Terrorists (not sure why I struck that out; Dubya’s supporters can’t tell the difference). So when Obama announced his intention to close it, Republicans had a conniption. It’s a conniption that’s been ongoing into the present, where the Huffington Post reports that Senator Tom Cotton (R-AK) is the latest to join in.
While speaking during a hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Cotton railed against President Obama’s ongoing effort to depopulate the prison camp. And he did so by claiming that the United States should be sending more people there, not fewer.
So, question: how much money do you think that Cotton makes whenever Gitmo gets a prisoner? After all, every time Gitmo gets a new prisoner, a Military-Industry Complex-supporting Senator gets his wings.
Cotton, a veteran of Iraq and conservative nonesuch of the highest order, accused the White House of “neglecting safety” in exchange for “political favors.”
The problem, according to Cotton, is that there are “too many empty beds and cells there right now” and that “We should be sending more terrorists there for further interrogation to keep this country safe.” He added that he wants Gitmo Detainees to “rot in Hell.”
And by “terrorists,” he means “threatening brown people,” because you can bet your liberal card that he’s not referring to conservative terrorists who blow up abortion clinics or threaten liberal politicians with violent polemic. Thrasymachus here agrees with them — he has to, these are people who elected him — so clearly they can’t be terrorists.
