We hear the same things at the end of each year: “Adios (insert year here)! Hopefully next year will be better!” Well, thanks to John Green, you can be absolutely certain that factually, 2014 will be better for humanity than the previous years. Green reviewed a ton of statistics that affect the world we live in and created a video stating 14 reasons why things are more awesome than we ever thought.
Obviously, Green knows that even with some good news, we can still remain a bit depressed about what’s going on in the world, but at least with these facts, it’s a bit easier to take comfort.
Here’s data for all his facts: Lower divorce rates, unintended pregnancy, infant mortality rates (and the fewer children that come with them), lower absolute poverty rates, lower cancer rates, Africa winning, Interwebs speeds, airfares getting cheaper, lower pet murder, less malaria, more women’s literacy, more girls learning stuff, and longer living.
