Think the constant fighting between Israel and Palestine is just just some mysterious, unsolvable conflict that materialized out of thin air? Think again.
Our war-mongering right-wingers here in the U.S. love to blame the war on those intractable Ay-rab, Muslim “terrorists” in Palestine who refuse to compromise, but The Young Turks‘ Cenk Uygur begs to differ.
He got hold of a 2001 video with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu bragging about how easy it is to manipulate America into supporting Israel’s constant bullying, murdering, and oppression of the Palestinian people. As described in Haaretz, the prime minister didn’t know he was being recorded, and got caught saying very bluntly, in Hebrew:
‘I know what America is. America is a thing you can move very easily, move it in the right direction. They won’t get in their way.’
“They asked me before the election if I’d honor [the Oslo accords]. I said I would, but … I’m going to interpret the accords in such a way that would allow me to put an end to this galloping forward to the ’67 borders. How did we do it? Nobody said what defined military zones were. Defined military zones are security zones; as far as I’m concerned, the entire Jordan Valley is a defined military zone. Go argue.”
For those of us who don’t speak Politicianese, Uygur breaks down the meaning of Netanyahu’s statements quite succinctly:
“Not only bragging that he can push America around easily, but then furthermore saying how he’s against the Oslo Acords and peace agreements, AND, how he would actively scuttle them.”
An outraged Uygur then reminds us that this isn’t about whether we support having a safe home for the long-persecuted Jewish people. It’s about whether whether or not we support war. And Netanyahu clearly wants war, because wars get him re-elected.
“This isn’t about being pro-Israel or anti-Israel. This guy is pro-war. He’s anti-peace. He tells you he doesn’t want the peace deal! He didn’t want it then, he’s not gonna want it now. Why? He keeps getting re-elected when there’s a war.”
Watch Cenk Uygur take down Israeli warmonger Benjamin Netanyahu.
“We’re sick of the right-wingers here in the U.S who drive us into more and more wars […] Understand that that’s their agenda and always has been.” — Cenk Uygur, TYT
