In keeping with the GOP’s feeble attempts to include more folks within their tent, this Navy SEAL boldly stands up for the rights of blind people. How? He insists that they should enjoy the right to own guns.
Because, here in Republican America, we have no right to healthcare, shelter, food, clothing, or a living wage, no matter how hard we work, how badly some bank has screwed us, or how desperate our circumstances are. But we danged well have a God-given right to buy, borrow, or steal MOAR GUNZZZZZ!!!!!
“Every law abiding, blind individual should be able to have whatever guns they want. And if you disagree with that statement or you haven’t thought it all the way through, you don’t take your rights seriously enough.”
Depriving blind people of the right to bear arms strips them of their individual freedoms — which, as far as this writer knows, not a single person has been actively seeking — violates the U.S. constitution? But… what about our individual freedoms to not get shot and killed by someone who can’t handle a gun safely? Or, by someone who’s so freaking batsh*t CRAZY they shouldn’t be allowed to own any guns at all?
Yet, Raso has an answer for this argument: Blind people’s other senses compensate for their lack of ability to actually see what they’re shooting. By this logic, a blind person is perfectly capable of driving a car, because they can “sense” the traffic around them.
“Do you think because they’re blind that they’re going to start shooting in every direction and kill everyone? Fact is that it’s been proven that people that lack vision have an increased awareness of their hearing and spatial surroundings.”
But here’s what it really boils down to, for folks like Raso.
Any and all limitations on guns and gun ownership — no matter how necessary or backed by evidence — nudge us further down that slippery slope towards the horrors of living in a country where people don’t have to worry about themselves or their children getting accidentally (or intentionally) shot.
“[If we deny blind people guns] They could take rights away if you’re missing an arm or a leg.”
Raso’s rant is apparently in response to a wave of media coverage questioning Iowa’s lack of vision requirements for Second Amendment folks seeking to bear arms.
Dear God, these Navy SEALS are starting to scare the heck out of us. What on earth does the U.S. Military put in their food and water? We’ve barely recovered from the horrors of that other Navy SEAL’s lurid rantings and epic Koran-dropping at a Tea Party gathering earlier this year, and now this?
We deeply apologize to any blind sharp shooters out there, whom we may have wronged. But — although we here at AATTP are all about equal opportunity, non-discrimination, and civil rights — the idea of sightless people wielding guns absolutely terrifies us.
Getting a driver’s license requires a certain level of visual acuity to ensure safety, and so should buying a gun.
Now, the NRA wants to arm the blind.
