Houston local Charmesia Corley was driving to the corner store during the evening of June 21, 2015, when she was pulled over by a sheriff’s deputy for allegedly running a stop sign.
When the deputy approached the car, he told Corley that he was going to conduct a search because he smelled marijuana. The deputy proceeded to handcuff Corley and put her in the back of his cruiser.
The Deputy’s search turned up nothing, however upon returning to his vehicle he claimed that his vehicle now smelled like marijuana. This prompted the deputy to call a female officer to the scene in order to perform a search of Corley’s person.
Upon arriving, the female officer ordered Corley out of the cruiser and over to the side of her own vehicle. There she told Corley to drop her pants.
According to Corley, she told the officer that she did not have any underwear on. The female deputy said, “that doesn’t matter.”
Corely still hesitated to follow the command, and indicated that she would have a hard time following the instructions because she was still handcuffed behind her back.
According to Corely, the female officer proceeded to pull her pants down.
Then, the female officer ordered her to bend over. This time Corley was much more vocal in her protest, but yet again she still ultimately complied.
That’s when Corley says she felt the female officer try to penetrate her vagina with her fingers. At that point Corely says she jumped up and refused to allow the search to continue. However the officers pushed her to the ground and continued the “search” for marijuana, telling her to spread her legs.
According to Corley, the female officer threatened to break her legs if she did not open them for her.
This sick scene played out on the side of the road with other drivers passing by.
The Sheriff’s department claims that Corley consented to the search and they did indeed find .08 ounces of marijuana. However this seems to contradict her being charged with “resisting arrest” along with possession of marijuana. If she consented, then how could she have resisted?
This raw and evil violation disturbs me down to my core. I’m not speaking just as a black man. I’m also speaking as an American and a human being.
How can police officers continue to insist that “bluelivesmatter” when they do things like this, with no remorse? There wasn’t even a denial that this happened. In their view, this was a legitimate procedure done by the book. Incidents like this are adding more powder to the powder keg and the fuse is slowly burning down.
