On August 31, 2015 Texas police officer Don Allen, 27, was found dead in his home under circumstances describe by authorities as being “clearly suspicious.” Police concluded that his death was the result of foul play and launched a joint investigation with federal agencies to find his killers.
As the police and federal authorities investigated the crime, the investigation took them down a disturbing and disappointing path. Police believe that Allen tried to arrange an “encounter” with two suspects, a married couple, believed to be his killers on Craigslist.
The couple replied to an ad that Allen posted on the website. Although the nature of the encounter has not been fully elaborated by authorities, they have given some indication that this could have a private adult encounter gone wrong.
On September 3, 2015, police arrested Phillip Walter, 29, and Violetta Walter, 30. Police believe the couple replied to Allen’s ad and somehow might have arranged to meet Allen. At this point police are not saying if they arranged to meet at Allen’s home or a separate location.
Police found stolen goods belonging to Allen in the suspects’ possession, as well as physical evidence which tied the couple to the crime scene.
According to police, the Walters were charged with first-degree felony murder and they are each currently being held on $500,000 bond.
In a statement Abilene police spokesman Rick Tomlin said this:
“Electronic evidence, which we believe will more definitively reveal the nature of the relationship, is still being processed at a Department of Public Safety Crime Lab,” Abilene police spokesman Rick Tomlin said.”
Right now police are not saying the nature of the “electronic evidence” they are reviewing. However, Abilene police did emphasize that they did believe Allen’s death was of a “personal nature” and was not connected to his job as a police officer. Allen was engaged to be married to his fiance, shown below.
