A woman from Hamilton, Ohio says that the popular internet meme, Slenderman, inspired her daughter to attack her with a knife–and even dressed up for the attack. After hearing of the two twelve-year-old girls who stabbed their friend nineteen times in an effort to please the fictional horror meme–and to prove he was real–the mother, who requested anonymity, says that she believes her daughter was also inspired by the popular character.
“I came home one night from work and she was in the kitchen waiting for me and she was wearing a mask — a white mask,” the woman said. “She had her hood up and had her hands covered with her sleeves and the mask.”
The woman’s daughter stabbed her multiple times. The unnamed victim sustained multiple injuries during the attack, including cuts on her neck and face, and a puncture wound on her back. “She was someone else during that attack,” the mother said.
Her daughter, she said, has mental issues and frequently mentions demons, being insane, and “falling into darkness” in her writings. She also liked Slenderman.
“We found things that she had written and she made reference to Slenderman. She also made references to killing,” the mother said. “She even created a world for Slenderman in the game Minecraft,” something that the would-be killers who recently made headlines for a Slendy-inspired attack on their friend also did.
The girl says that she does not remember what happened the evening she attacked her mother.
Slenderman originated from a series of Photoshopped pictures circulated around paranormal forums in an effort to have some fun with visitors to those sites. He is commonly depicted as a tall, thin, faceless figure wearing a black suit. He befriends his child victims or stalks his adult victims, causing paranoia, memory loss, insomnia, and coughing fits. The meme has inspired a video game, numerous attempts to crowdfund a movie, and a number of spinoffs since it first appeared in 2009.
