If you ever needed evidence that the NRA has gotten way out of control and needs to be hacked apart with a legislative chainsaw, look no further than the loon Ted Nugent who, speaking on behalf of the NRA at an annual convention, said that he would “shoot” Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid if he had the chance.
This is boisterous talk from a man who’s nothing but talk; all Nugent has to do is take his gun, walk up to Reid while Reid is away from the Capitol Hill police, and pull the trigger. It’s happened countless times in American history. He’s just too much of a coward to actually do it.
But while Nugent is a loud-mouthed, dirty coward, there are people in that audience who are not, and who will do something like that.
After all, Gabrielle Griffords didn’t shoot herself.
During a question and answer section that followed his speech, Nugent was asked, “How and why did the NRA ever endorse Harry Reid to serve as the front man for Osama Obama?”
Nugent responded by calling it, “possibly the most important question we could confront here because it is so confusing and, on the surface, so diabolical.”
It’s actually not all that confusing; the NRA never formally endorsed Reid, but they did contribute $4,000 to his reelection campaign — it was a short-lived relationship that went south after Reid introduced a bill that would’ve expanded background checks and closed gun show sales loopholes.
Of course, I can distinguish between hyperbole and reality. Nugent and the rest of the bench-warmers for the Junior League of Totalitarians can’t.
Nugent did his best Harry Reid — a difficult task, because that’d require pretending to be human, something I’m not sure he knows how to do — and then called Reid “a lying prick.” He took it even further, saying, “And because the left has no soul, he admitted he’s a lying prick, and we haven’t sent him to Cuba yet.”
Then Nugent mocked NRA members who threatened to quit, targeting members who were upset because of the donation to Reid, because Norquist is on the board, or because the NRA “sends too much shit in the mail. Shut up! There are Marines with no legs who fought for your freedoms. I don’t want to hear about too much mail.”
He continued, saying:
The NRA is it! If your child is dying, and there is only one way to get to the doctor, would you get on Harry Reid’s boat to get there? Then your child’s dead!
I’d get on the boat, get there, and then I’d shoot him
This, folks, is what blunt metaphor trauma looks like. Or, I think that’s supposed to be a metaphor, anyway.
