The junior Senator from Texas used the popular children’s book to extend his words during a highly questionable filibuster.
Cruz has known since the beginning of the week that his actions are futile and is cognizant of just how long he can speak during his performance art.
He in fact met with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to set time parameters.
It is unclear whether Cruz is enhancing his own brand, solidifying support among his constituency — including the vast number of people without health insurance in his state — or just deflecting larger issues.
On a related note, Cruz once stated that his father, the non-American who was living in Canada during his son’s birth, invented the dish green eggs and ham.
The estate of the brilliant Dr. Seuss had no comment.
Obamacare will not be defunded nor repealed no matter what antics are performed in either chamber of the Congress. It has been passed by the House and signed into law by the President and upheld by one of the most conservative Supreme Courts in recent history.
And forty was not the charm as the House tried to overturn the legislation two score times.
The real question is what work is not being done by this body? Some important legislation is languishing, including a critically needed jobs bill. Also, will this filibuster and other actions help change public perception about the deficit and allow the legislative and executive branches to cut important social programs?
