Sen. Ted Cruz on Saturday denounced Democrats as extremists out to destroy your religious freedoms. If you’re a right-wing, heterosexual Christian, that is.
The Republican senator from Texas was one of several Presidential candidates who volleyed for position as they addressed 1,000 Evangelicals at a tea party named the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition summit. The party theme was to rally support for a constitutional amendment that would allow states to re-ban gay marriage.
“The modern Democratic Party has gotten so extreme, so intolerant, there is a liberal fascism, that is dedicated to going after and targeting believing Christians who follow the Biblical teachings on marriage…The left practices vilification and insults, and spews hatred to people of faith.”
Cruz continued by pointing out inconsistencies within the Democratic party because religious freedom at one time was almost unanimously supported by the House and such liberal heavyweights as Ted Kennedy, Joe Biden and the Clintons. Perhaps that is because the Teapublicans have redefined the meaning of religious freedom.
The senator blames the liberal agenda of defending same-sex marriage for driving Christians away from the Democrats.
“It is heartbreaking, but it is so extreme, it is waking people up.”
Funny, because support for same-sex marriage, according to polls, continues to climb. Wake up, Ted.
