Extreme religious fanatic Bryan Fischer, of the Family Research Council, believes in suspending Islamic immigration to the U.S., because we can’t determine who is a good Muslim and who is an evil Muslim. That would be bad enough just by itself, but he goes even farther with it. Though he didn’t say so outright, he strongly implied that he agreed with a caller to his show who said that sharia law might actually be preferable to the system we have now.
“So [Muslims] rightly accuse the United States of corrupting the morality of the entire world. And it’s just embarrassing; it’s humiliating that we have given them that. How do we argue against that? We can’t. When they go out and say the United States is the Great Satan because of all the pornography it produces, how do you argue against that? Because they are right that that is the work of Satan. We’re producing it, we’re distributing it all over around world, they have every right to complain about that. So again, as we’ve drifted from our cultural moorings, from our values, we’re creating a problem for ourselves as well as for the rest of the world.”
But the morality that Fischer wants is Christian morality. So, in Fischer’s line of thinking, Muslims have at least one thing going for them: They don’t like porn either. But, agreeing that Sharia law would be better than the First Amendment because even Sharia law prohibits porn? These people really are theocrats; they want Christian law to reign supreme here. And they don’t see that it’s no different than Muslim rule.
Of course, this is the man that would like to follow Russia’s example of outlawing curse words, and who thinks the word “religion” in the First Amendment clearly means Christianity (which would lead one to think that, in his opinion, the First Amendment bans Christianity, but he actually thinks it means that Congress can’t restrict Christianity like it can, and should, restrict everything else), and that only Christians should be allowed to hold public office. Atheists, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, and of course, Muslims, need not apply.
His column, in which he calls for stopping all immigration from Muslim hotbeds to the U.S., says that Islam is a disease, and the way to get rid of diseases is to stop them at their source. He compared Islam to cholera epidemics, saying:
“A couple of centuries ago in London, a cholera outbreak threatened to devastate the entire population of the city. A frantic hunt ensued to track down the cause of this infectious outbreak. In one of the first breakthroughs in forensic medicine, the source was identified as a contaminated well. When the well was capped, the outbreak stopped.
When it comes to terrorism, it’s time to cap the well. Islam is a contagious infection, a totalitarian ideology that threatens the social health of its infected host, the United States. This contagion needs to be contained by stopping Islamic immigration at our border. Just as we screen immigrants for contagious physical diseases, so we need to screen immigrants for contagious cultural diseases.”
A totalitarian ideology is what he wants here, but of course, as long as it’s a Christian totalitarian ideology, well that’s just fine. It’s only bad when it’s Islam.
