In an effort to educate young adults on how to obtain health insurance, Colorado advocacy groups Progress Now and Colorado Consumer Health Initiative teamed up to issue a series of ads directed towards their Got Insurance? website. The ads are quirky and catchy and are directed towards young adults on topics such as sports, drinking — and of course, sex.
A recent ad regarding birth control displays how health insurance is now required to cover all contraception. The ad paints a picture of a woman who is sexually active. Naturally, conservatives are losing their minds over the ‘controversial’ content of the ad. Rush Limbaugh even went as far as to call women who like to have sex without getting pregnant, prostitutes.
“What these ads are really promising, if you like your risky promiscuous lifestyle, you can keep it. If you like being promiscuous, you can keep on being promiscuous. If you like being a prostitute, then have at it,” said Rush.
More than 99% of women aged 15–44 who have ever had sexual intercourse have used at least one contraceptive method. This statistic most likely includes all four of Rush Limbaugh’s wives, whom (luckily) never gave birth to his children. Several conservatives took to Twitter regarding the issue and used some creative language to give their take on the ad.
Representative Steve Stockman from Texas even weighed in, tweeting “This is an actual Obamacare ad. Democrats have somehow turned sex into a government entitlement.”
Actually, Mr. Stockman, birth control is an insurance benefit and not an entitlement.
Here are a few examples of how some other conservatives reacted:
