Madeline Albright famously said, “There is a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.” If this is really true, then Hell is filled with women like TEapublican Rep. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee. While we should expect TEApublican males to do everything in their power to ruin women’s lives and rights in this country, when a TEApublican woman works to hurt other women we certainly take notice.
Blackburn joins the ranks of slimy women-hating women such as Ann Coulter, Michelle Bachmann, Michelle Malkin, Laura Ingraham and others. During an appearance on MSNBC, Blackburn told Chuck Todd,
“I didn’t like the way it was expanded to include other different groups. What you need is something that is focused specifically to help these shelters and to help our law enforcement, who is trying to work with the crimes that have been committed against women and helping them to stand up.”
You see, these “other different groups” Blackburn is referring to are Native Americans, LGBT individuals, and undocumented immigrants. Apparently they aren’t worth protecting from violence. The expanded VAWA makes it easier for LGBT victims to access services, allowed Native Amerian tribal courts to prosecute non-tribal suspects of domestic violence and sex crimes on tribal land, and provided temporary visas to abused undocumented immigrants to allow them to escape from dangerous situations.
