Medium.com reports that at a small town hall meeting in Colorado a Teapublican Congressman in the United States House of Representatives called for senior military officers to resign in protest of Obama’s involvement with Syria and Iraq. Who was this deranged mad-man you may be asking yourself? Well it is none other than Tea Party dimwit, and four-time elected official, Doug Lamborn.
While this is not surprising coming from such a bumbling moron as Lamborn, what IS concerning is the fact that he sits on House Armed Services Committee. You would think a man who sits on the HASC would understand that the President IS the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and holds some authority to conduct military strikes without Congressional authorization. Under the War Powers Resolution of 1973 the President has complete and total authority to conduct military operations at his own behest and on the advice of his senior leaders – these same Generals Lamborn is foolishly calling to resign – for up to 90 days.
This Resolution was created as a response to the egregious violation of the President’s authority during the Vietnam Conflict (notice it’s not a war). Vietnam was a Presidential conflict that escalated into what should have been brought before Congress in order to have continued on that long, but no such provision or time restriction regarding the CIC’s authority was put in writing prior to that time.
Little Dougie was speaking to about 50 constituents in a small gathering in his district. It’s an interesting stance for him to take since he barely squeaked by on his last election. Some idiot service member who was in attendance (and rightly needs to be named and shamed) asked Lamborn “to support the troops and Generals in this country despite the fact that there is no leadership from the Muslim Brotherhood in the White House.”
In response Lamborn stated
You know, I can’t add anything to that, but do let me reassure you on this…A lot of us are talking to the Generals behind the scenes saying, “Hey, if you disagree with the policy that the White House has given you, then resign.”
As wonderfully simplistic and stupid as that is, it is no solution to any of the existential problems that exist from a military standpoint. Yes, let’s just sacrifice the experience and leadership from a war-hardened military to advance your political cause!
This is just another fine example of the right using the military, not for its intended purpose of defense and national security, but to further your own political agenda.
What exactly do these parasites on the right consider people in the military, even the high-ranking Generals, beyond pawns in their own political endgame? Remember when Republicans shut down the government and then joined veterans in bitching about the war memorials being shut down? Remember when veterans asked for the VA to add more doctors and hospitals (because the VA consistently has the highest customer healthcare rating in the nation) and the Republicans screamed “NO” and outsourced the problem to private practices?
All this coming from a man who never served. All this coming from a man who knows nothing about military protocol. Can officers resign? Sure. Does it leave them free to walk away from a conflict while all the enlisted men are still forced to go into a conflict, regardless of whether the conflict is legitimate or not, without the advantage of having experienced leadership on their side? Absolutely.
The Republicans, like Lamborn, don’t care. Don’t buy the BS.
