Almost half of Americans view the Tea Party unfavorably.
Still the results are upsetting. 30% of Democrats and Independents views this group favorably while half of the GOP does as well.
How is this even possible?
Ted Cruz (R-Canada) saw his popularity triple among the Tea Party folks and plummet with the traditional and conservative GOP. Thus, he has more support in a declining base.
Makes running for President even harder for Cruz. Looking at the reality these numbers demonstrate, he can always say he wants to spend more time with his family or he was not born
in the United States.
Back to the poll numbers.
Republican leaders also suffered approval losses by both regular and TP Republicans. That could hurt Mitch McConnell who is being primaried this year.
It is unacceptable that the Tea Party has this level of support.
Let’s review the latest antics:
Ted Cruz, who uses his wife’s health coverage, is eligible for the excellent Senate plan and is from Canada, shut down the government to defund legislation that could help 15% of Americans who are currently uninsured.
He and a band of crazy, uncaring elected officials charged with the public good, stopped major parts of the government to try to defund a law that has been passed by both houses, signed by the President and vetted by the most conservative Supreme Court in a hundred years or more.
Liberals don’t get smug.
The President, the Democrats and yes the “mainstream” GOP must trek to the gerrymandered lairs of the people who held this country hostage.
Just like the iconic Tea Party sign that read (paraphrasing) Keep the Government Away from my Medicare, experts need to mosey into these districts and explain the personal cost of the Tea Party.
