Fasten your seatbelts, folks! Whenever stupid people gather in large numbers, it’s bound to be interesting and the South Carolina Tea Party convention was no exception. What better way to kick things off than with a little jingoistic hate speech!
According to South Carolina Tea Party Chairman Joe Dugan, “Melting Pot” is a term we seem to be using incorrectly. According to Dugan, when America was young, immigrants shed all their cultural values and all identity associating with their heritage and became ‘MURIKAN. “When they came to the America, they blended in to become Americans. They put their heritage behind them.”
Dugan expanded on his statement by explaining that “Hyphenated-Americans” are not “real Americans.” He claims that multiculturalism divides a country, somehow forgetting that the divisiveness arises from his segment of the population’s refusal to accept change. “We don’t want a hundred different cultures in America,” he said, “We want American culture.”
He closes that segment of his talk, as he tears the piece of paper labeled “hyphenated-Americans” off the wall, “Let’s get rid of the hyphenated-Americans.”
