Three days ago, Tea Party favorite Allen West joined the “fair and balanced” team of newscasters over at Fox News. West has been using his Twitter handle @AllenWest to keep some hate flowing in order to keep himself relevant to his small fan-base after losing office. He defends discrimination against Muslims, scoffs at people killed in work-place accidents, and sometimes he writes things that take time to decipher through wtf-ery.
Yeah, this Tweet above is Allen West proving his mathematical capability mixed with some random old-school Tea Party Federal Reserve attacks and a punchline that seemed to resonate with his audience by simply saying, “House of cards”. The 7.6% is apparently the current unemployment rate and he then breaks down who is in that group as if that has changed over the decades demographically. There is an odd implication there that Conservative values somehow can help black people… but I really don’t want to get into the racial stuff which the bulk of his supporters seem to carry a torch for. The “U6” reference is a less reliable way in order to measure the unemployment rate of the country which will always be near double the standard and therefore something to try to make Obama’s progress look worse than it has been. Obama was handed a broken economy in January of 2009 with unemployment numbers at 7.8% and those rose monthly to 10% in October of that year. Obama’s cabinet was assembled in the first month of his presidency and by then unemployment was at 8.3% before he had any power to affect it with legislation. Then there was the pile of executive orders that Bush left on the President’s desk which Obama, like Bush did with Clinton’s orders, was forced to suspend those orders for review and take even more valuable time from the crisis affecting the country from the recession. You could easily argue that Obama truly was handed a 10% unemployment rate (under the U6 chart would be around 19%) which was the final culmination of the recession and couldn’t have been stopped by anyone short of undoing 10 years of a terrible president.
Not too many Americans remembered that we even had such a thing as Armed Forces Day. The Conservatives have been banging drums to support troops every day of the year now for as long as we have been in Iraq and Afghanistan. A few days after announcing his new job with Faux News, West Tweeted an exasperated, “Wish more Americans knew 2day is Armed Forces Day. Plz take a moment to honor those on air, land & sea who selflessly guard our freedoms”. I know, the premise is sort of redundant… what would Facebook Conservatives do to step up the support for the troops? Maybe get tattoos of their favorite military branch? You could always follow Allen West’s examples instead of his words. The “Ryan” budget that he voted for cut VA services by 13%. House Republicans, like West, were defending that cut to the VA by simply lowering the total number of veterans projected to a smaller number and… VOILA! More money for fewer people and therefore it isn’t a cut… it’s a bonus! Or smoke and mirrors as it turns out Obama was much closer on the number of needy veterans.
Now that Allen West is working over at Fox News we can throw in another straw onto the back of that “fair and balanced” camel they call journalism. I am just really hoping that they give him a gun to fire at guests to get them to talk. It worked so well for him in the military. I’ll continue supporting the military the same way as I always have, by fighting to make sure they are treated just as well after they come home as when they are sent off to war. You know… the opposite of Allen West’s voting record. But this is America, and we are entitled to be douchebags if we want to be. Kudos to Fox for finding another douche near-bursting at the seams with anger and blame for anything not Conservative.
