Perhaps when Senator Cruz joined the Tea Party he was under the impression it was the Long Island Iced Tea Party. The Boston Globe reported that the Republican senator, while in college, got so drunk that he could not perform in a school play the next day.
But despite Senator Ted Cruz participating in typical college drinking entertainment, which is not so uncommon, this story in some way reinforces the despicable antics that Senator Cruz puts forth today in American politics and our government. If Cruz’s portrayal of Rev. Samuel Parris in “The Crucible” is half as bad as his portrayal of acting like a Senator, then it’s safe to say he’d probably be waiting tables outside of Hollywood Blvd. for a living had he pursued his acting career.
From The Globe:
“After the successful first performance, Cruz spent the cast party imbibing so much Everclear — a powerful grain alcohol — that he couldn’t make it through the next night’s performance. His fellow actors had to coax him into going onstage, but by Act III his condition worsened. A video of the performance shows him sitting on a bench onstage, his head buried in his hands for nearly five minutes straight. After meekly delivering a line, he walked off stage in the middle of the scene, forcing cast members to improvise around the departure of a lead character. He didn’t return for the remainder of the play.”
Most of us who have attended college can relate to being young and foolish, and well…drinking a lot. But, it’s so much more entertaining when we find these stories of people who put themselves on a pedestal.
That being said, considering his atrocious and irrational behavior towards the American people, it is likely that Cruz is still feeling the dreaded effects of that Everclear hangover. I just really hope that video of the above incident gets released soon. With all the recent negative impact Cruz has had on our system, it will be nice to get a hearty laugh at him on stage.
