We all knew it, Ted Cruz is crazy and he really doesn’t care about the country. His only real interest is in making a name for himself with an eye on the Oval Office. Well, now it’s official, he is certifiable and he will sell this nation down the river if things don’t go his way.
He has made up his mind that he is going to see the demise of “Obamacare” come hell or high water and nothing will sway his determination to achieve that goal. Now he has announced his newest plan to get rid of the law that he finds so odious, he has decided that the way to go is to shut down the military!
Asked by Chris Wallace today on Faux News, what the next step would be when the Senate refuses to accept the House CR which would defund Obamacare Cruz told him,
[box type=”shadow”]“If Harry Reid kills the bill in the Senate, the House should hold its ground, and should begin passing smaller continuing resolutions, one department at a time. It should start with a continuing resolution focused on the military. Send it over, see if Harry Reid is willing to shut down the military.”[/box]
For someone who proclaims himself to be the ultimate patriot to even suggest this is beyond the pale and would mean that we stop paying those who are putting their lives on the line for this country around the world, in Afghanistan, for example. Of course, it will not absolve those service members from their obligations, their bills will continue to come in and their creditors will not wait for their payment, but that is of no concern to him apparently.
That is the least of what such a move would mean. What will it do for morale in the military to know that they are not going to be seeing a paycheck, knowing that their families back home are not going to get their allotment checks? Are they going to feel motivated to do the job that they are no longer being paid to do? Would anyone be willing to face the possibility of losing his/her life for a nation that is not even willing to support them and their loved ones?
It is one thing to take a stand and fight for it, it is another thing entirely to be so dedicated to that position that you are willing to put national security at risk to make a point. No true patriot would ever consider doing what he is proposing. Tail Gunner Ted seems to have no such compunctions though.
Ted has managed to alienate many on both sides of the aisle in his short tenure as a Senator and those sentiments have grown in recent weeks as he pursues his vendetta against Obamacare with abandon, perhaps this is the straw that will break the camels back. This may be what it takes for the reasonable voices in his party to take him aside and put him in his place, telling him enough is enough. We can only hope. While it would mean the final nail in the coffin for the TEApublicans chances next fall it would be too great a price to pay.
