Although it was a close call, the Most Stereotypically White Southern Race of the Decade — occurring in Mississippi and pitting someone who preformed indecent acts with animals against a Confederate Apologist — has come to a close. Cochran walked away with a victory, but like the Confederacy that McDaniel stands for, he won’t give up — even though it’s clear he lost.
Rather than secede the race to Thad Cochran, McDaniel held to his guns, saying that “there is something a bit strange, there is something a bit unusual about a Republican primary that’s decided by liberal Democrats.”
McDaniel’s comments reference the Cochran campaign’s appeal to sanity, asking the support of African-Americans and Democratic voters in the state for assistance. When the race was over, with 98% reporting, Cochran led McDaniel 50.6% to 49.4%.
“As you know there were literally dozens of irregularities reported across this state. And you know why. You read the stories. You’re familiar, you’re familiar with the problems that we had,” McDaniel said, adding that “Now it’s our job to make sure that sanctity of the vote is upheld. Before this race ends we have to be absolutely certain that the Republican primary was won by Republican voters. And so we will stand with courage, we will stand with judgement, we will stand with integrity and we will stand for dedication.”
Funny how they only find those values when they’re contesting someone else’s victory, isn’t it?
