Mark Mayfield, one of the men charged with conspiracy in connection to blogger “Constitutional” Clayton Kelly’s attempt to sneak into an assisted living facility where Senator Thad Cochran’s bedridden wife lives and photograph her for a smear video in support of sore loser Chris McDaniel, has reportedly committed suicide.
The Tea Partier and real estate attorney was found in his home with a gunshot wound to the head. Governor Phil Bryant said, “Deborah and are saddened to hear of the loss of Mark Mayfield. He was a long-time friend, and he will be missed. Our prayers go out to his family in this tragic moment.”
“This is a terrible tragedy that shouldn’t have happened,” Mayfield’s lawyer John Reeves told Reuters.
Mayfield was arrested in May for his connection to the photo scandal, and was set to go before a grand jury in July. The Central Mississippi Tea Party leader was, at the time of his death, charged with felony conspiracy.
