We here at AATTP have pretty much taken the Maher position on the Charlie Hebdoe Massacre, and other affiliated censorships of Mohammed. And we feel pretty strongly about it…see?
But in spite of supporting the right to free speech ourselves, and taking a position against terrorist appeasers, we and most others have stopped a bit short of acting like terrorists ourselves. After all, “free speech” also means you have the right not to say something if you don’t want to. A right which the New York Times, CNN ABC and (MS)NBC have thus far exercised when it comes to stories on the Charlie Hebdoe Massacre, and did again when they opted not to show the new Mohammed cover for the post-massacre issue. Which is:
(English Translation: “All is Forgiven” and “I am Charlie.” AATTP translation: “Eat it, Free Speech Terrorists.”)
Of the major networks, thus far only Fox and CBS have shown images of the cover. Fox, because…well, because a Muslim terrorist attack on The Five would be fantastic for Hannity’s ratings. And CBS because it’s actually a serious, journalistic news organization. For certain, those of us who do show the images are in a position to decry those who don’t. That’s not acting or thinking like a terrorist. This, however, is:
That would be one-term Tea Party Republican Illinois representative Joe Walsh. Walsh was elected at the height of Obamaphobia in 2010, and served without distinction until he was fired in 2012. During his time in office, Walsh became a near caricature of Tea Party lunacy; and he remains exactly that now, albeit from the less prestigious confines of his AM radio station. Naturally.
But Twitter abides no bias for the venue, even if it is a rented broom closet with a ham radio and a coat hangar antenna. For even in these humble confines, there may be a dail-up internet connection. And Walsh used it to double-down on his tasteful criticism of Fox competitors CNN and MSNBC…while oddly never mentioning CBS.
Despite never wishing death on CBS, or even mentioning non-Fox-competing outlets (possibly for fear of burning bridges on his next creer change), Walsh did cinch up the drawstring on his sweatpants to take aim at another old critic of his.
Glen Beck’s site neve has been too kind to Walsh, who once called him a “Dunce” for being upset that no one else was rushing to the defense of Todd “Legitimate Rape” Akin. Minor rephrase: “Once” called him that in August of 2012, two months before the election that saw him fired.
Yes, this Tea Party darling has fallen a long way from the halls of power; from screaming “SOCIALISM!” in the hallowed halls of Capitol Hill, to having his condo forclosed, losing his wife, getting sued for child support, ending up in a broom closet at an AM radio station and finally, attention-whoring on Twitter.
So, whilst Walsh wile away his time on the Last Refuge of the terminally irrelevant, let us all be thankful for the First Amendment. Because no matter what you chose to use it for, it will always be good for putting conservative politicians back in the broom closets they came from. And that’s a place not even Bill Maher will go for news.
