Tea party hero Ted Cruz, announced his decision to reject the opinion of a Federal Court on Monday, blocking a major component of Texas’ draconian new anti-abortion law. The new law is only one of a tidal wave of measures recently passed in state legislatures across the country, in a backdoor effort to declare Roe V Wade moot.
The particular provision in question has been used in several other states, including Alabama where it met a similar judicial hurdle, and it mandates that any doctor performing abortion services, must have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the clinic. This requirement was challenged by Planned Parenthood because it was an unnecessary barrier that would have the effect of shutting down most, if not all, abortion clinics in the state.
“(Judge) Yeakel ruled that a lack of admitting privileges on the part of an abortion provider is of ‘no consequence’ when a patient presents at an emergency room, that it does nothing to further the interest of patient care through communication, nor does it impact timelines.
Cruz quickly grabbed as many cameras and microphones as he could, to denounce the decision, claiming it was unconstitutional.
“Texas passed commonsense legislation to protect the health of women and their unborn children,” Cruz said in a statement. “This law is constitutional and consistent with U.S. Supreme Court precedent protecting the life and health of the mother and child. I hope the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals will uphold Texas’ reasonable law.”
The Cruzinator has been in the news recently, claiming a direct line of communication with the lord god himself, and claiming to know “God’s will”, for the United States Government. Cruz’s critics on the left and the right, see him as a self-promoting demagogue, who is ready to pounce on any popular prejudice or superstition, to gain personal power.
