The Tea Party of Louisiana went above and beyond in its attempts to back its insane claim that Common Core has turned “thousands of children across the nation” into homosexuals.
The highly-intelligent conservatives cited the story, “Common Core Turns First Wave of Students Gay,” on satirical news site Broken World News while expressing “shock and outrage over Republican Senator David Vitter’s support for Common Core standards.
Vitter, a two-term Senator running for Governor against Bobby Jindal in 2015, recently said that Jindal’s decision to cancel Common Core testing and start over from scratch is “very disruptive.”
“I would take an aggressive, hands-on approach (to) get curriculum and implementation right,” Vitter said. “I’d ensure the state and locals maintain complete control over curriculum, lesson plans and reading lists and make good decisions on those. And I’d demand effective planning and preparation with parents, school boards and teachers.”
His promise to work with parents, school boards, and teachers, however, did not please the Tea Party. “TPoL has always thought of Senator Vitter as a friend of Liberty, but his statements in support of Common Core are not what we’d have expected from someone who is a defender of Louisiana’s children and a champion of Freedom and less government,” said spokesman Bob Reid in a statement on Monday. “Sadly, Senator Vitter’s remarks sound more like the rhetoric we’d expect from a D.C. elitist who doesn’t believe that we average citizens are capable of making our own decisions, running our own lives, and raising our own children.”
Reid said that the group is “at a loss to understand Sen. Vitter’s inexplicable change of heart, especially given that in his announcement for governor of Louisiana, this past January, Senator Vitter assailed Common Core as being an instrument of ‘big government.'”
On the group’s website, the Tea Party group says “Common Core is Total Federalized Control of Education, Indoctrination and Socialism,” the Tea Party group warned on its website. “Don’t believe us then just Do a Little Homework and see for yourself. Check these out and then tell us how you feel about Common Core being implemented in your schools and with your children.”
To support its ridiculous claims, the Tea Party posted a link to the satirical article from Broken World News, which warns, “Disclaimer: If you believe any of the shit you read here you are a freaking moron,” in a list of materials supporting their claims.
The link has since been removed, but RawStory preserved a screenshot of their “evidence.”:
The article claims that Rep. Charles Van Zant (R-FL) looked “like an oracle” after he warned that Common Core would “attract every one of your children to become as homosexual as they possibly can” in May.
The article included a satirical quote from Raymond Johnson of Biblical Concepts Ministries, who wrote in a press release defending Zant’s remarks with a claim that he “spoke the truth,” citing a satirical article about gay people using schools to “sodomize your sons” and “seduce them in your schools, in your locker rooms, in your sports arenas, in your seminaries, in your youth groups, wherever men are with men together,” as “evidence” of that claim.
Broken World News wrote that Johnson said something almost as stupid as that. “The Common Core standards are tough — tough enough to turn a straight kid gay,” Johnson says in the satirical piece. “The next thing you know, we’re going to see gay kids playing football.”
Bob Reid, a spokesman for Tea Party of Louisiana claimed that the group knew the article was “labeled satire” but posted it anyway to “bring attention of the Common Core issue to those who maybe aren’t paying attention.”
This claim may be mildly believable, but the group has scrubbed that particular claim from the site:
