If anyone understands what it’s like to live in a city that is 2/3 African-American with a police force that is mostly white with a disgusting history of police brutality that includes charging a black man for getting blood on the uniforms of the officers who viciously beat him as they wrongfully arrested him–it’s a bunch of crackers.
In response to those rallying around Officer Darren Wilson, the cop who was revealed to have murdered 18-year-old unarmed teen Michael Brown, a crowd of over 120 white people (and a single ‘token’ black guy) gathered to loudly and proudly proclaim their support for the embattled police officer.
“Ferguson will now be forced to hire 10 African American police officers just because of this terrible ordeal. Let the black officers see how difficult it is to try and deal with the black criminals on the beat they are patrolling,” said protester Damon Anderson, who does not live in Ferguson.
The group, organizing through the Facebook page Support Darren Wilson, has joined the KKK in raising reward money for Officer Wilson for eliminating “low-IQ Negro” Michael Brown. At the rally, the group sold t-shirts supporting Wilson, and raised over $1172 according to the Facebook page.
In addition, a woman by the name of Allison L. Wilson has started a GoFundMe to raise funds for Officer Wilson. In just 14 hours, the campaign has raised over $7,000. It is unclear if Darren and Allison are related. Nearly 200 t-shirts have been sold in support of Wilson through a Teespring campaign.
Interestingly, the heavily militarized, mostly white police force did not consider this gathering of Caucasians to be worthy of the same response with which the mostly-peaceful protests in support of Michael Brown have been met. Fortunately, white privilege has allowed supporters of Officer Wilson to evade any chance of being shot with tear gas canisters and essentially finding themselves met with opposition from out of control police. These “demonstrators” supporting Officer Wilson did not have to worry one bit that their children would be immersed in a cloud of tear gas.
Watching the gathering of white supporters was almost like watching the single night police dropped the heavy-handed response and allowed the peaceful protest to remain peaceful, without attacks on the largely African-American crowd supporting the murdered teenager.
Ever since Wilson was announced as Michael Brown’s killer, police and right-wing media have been working overtime to demonize the young man. At one point, in an attempt to delegitimize the protests, right-wingers claimed that Officer Wilson was black, something that is clearly not true. In fact, this debunked lie is still repeated in desperate efforts to justify Wilson’s actions.
Police have admitted that the “robbery” video they released as they, almost as an afterthought, named Wilson as the killer had nothing to do with the reason Brown was stopped. The officer, they admitted hours later, did not know that Brown was a suspect in the theft of a box of cigars. Right-wing media, however, accepts this as proof that the murder was justified.
The preliminary results of the federal autopsy ordered by Attorney General Eric Holder “due to the extraordinary circumstances involved in this case.” revealed that six bullets struck brown–including two shots to the head.
“In my capacity as the forensic examiner for the New York State Police, I would say, ‘You’re not supposed to shoot so many times,’ ” said Dr. Michael M. Baden, who performed the autopsy. However, he pointed out that the purpose of the examination was not to determine guilt.
