Michele Fiore, Tea Party darling, Cliven Bundy supporter, and alternative medicine crank, was forced to apologize after a debate got a bit too heated over her anti-fed bill on Tuesday.
Fiore’s bill, Assembly Bill 408, would make it illegal for the federal government to own land in the state of Nevada without the permission of the state, a move that that probably had the Pentagon leadership who run Area 51 laughing like hyenas. Surprisingly enough, Fiore is alone in thinking this is a good idea.
Assemblyman Chris Edwards, a fellow Republican, observed during the debate that Assembly Bill 408 was unconstitutional. Then things got heated.
“I do have a lot of problems wondering why we’re setting up a separate fund for some purposes for the attorney general to do some kind of business that seems to violate the Supremacy Clause,” he said. “Which is kind of strange, since I know [Fiore] has great respect for the Constitution and our federal system.”
Actually, she doesn’t. She respects her idea of what the Constitution is, like most right-wingers, but it’s an abstract, not a concrete, capable of proving her correct at every opportunity while never proving her wrong. It’s sort of like how they treat the Bible.
She snapped, however, when Edwards said that the bill could lead to “somebody not saying nice things about you in his little blog.”
Fiore spoke up, saying, “Mr. Speaker, can you stop this circus with the Assemblyman from District 19?” She then turned to Edwards directly and said, “Could you just sit your ass down and be quiet.”
Edwards said he was “very shocked”, while fellow GOP Assemblyman, John Ellison, said that Edwards was “egging on” Fiore.
“I told one of [Edwards’] friends, ‘You better go talk to him because this thing is going to blow up,’” Ellison said. “I knew what was going to happen. That’s why I went over to talk to his best friend and said, ‘You’ve got to calm him down.’”
The bill was rejected in a 34-8 vote.
