Another Tea Party nutjob has called for the assassination of a duly elected public official. During a Tea Party-sponsored conference call on May 29th, 2013 a caller suggested Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine should be assassinated over her support for immigration reform. Conservative participants reportedly laughed at the suggestion.
ThinkProgress reported that Stephen Miller, the communications director for Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., and Heritage Foundation research fellow Robert Rector were also on the call. Miller was reportedly already off the call when the Tea Partier called for Collins’ assassination.
The call was hosted by the conservative group Eagle Forum,
BOB FROM MAINE: I’m from Maine and our Tea Party will be meeting up next week. What is the best way that we can get our senator to listen to us?
ANOTHER CALLER: Shoot her. [laughter]
MODERATOR: Yes, we will shoot her with…(inaudible) and phone calls.
Think Progress reported that there was no criticism or condemnation voiced after the unidentified caller made the suggestion to shoot Collins.
Collins was the only Republican to co-sponsor an amendment to immigration reform that would allow same sex couples to petition for a visa for an immigrant partner.
Terroristic threats, and threatening assassination of political opponents is nothing new for the conservative Tea Party-types. In February Americans Against the Tea Party reported on an incident in Colorado where a Tea Party-type psycho Franklin Glenn Sain, threatened to kill Colorado state representative Rhonda Fields and her daughter. And in April of this year, Tea Party-type psychos threatened to kill New York Rep. Carolyn Maloney.
