It is hard to imagine Lindsey Graham being ‘too liberal,’ but that is exactly what Graham is being accused of being by state Senator Lee Bright who leads the field of TEA party challengers for his spot on the ballot next year.
Bright introduced a bill in the state Senate which would in effect nullify the ACA in the state and make it a crime for any federal official to attempt to enforce any part of the law and would carry a 5 year prison sentence for doing so.
He has also called for secession, joking (?), “If at first you don’t secede, try again.”
Speaking at a fund raiser this week in Oklahoma he attacked the immigration reform law which Graham had helped to craft. Bright said that Graham really wants to be a Democrat, and giving citizenship to all of these undocumented immigrants would create the necessary increase in Democratic voters to make it feasible for him to switch parties. He is apparently unaware of the fact that there are already more registered Democrats in the country than there are Republicans.
Bright’s next target: Food Stamp Recipients. Bright claims that they have “the nicest nails, the nicest pocketbook and they get the nicest car.”
“There’s people that are mentally ill, there are people that are disabled. I understand that, though I still think that’s the role of the Church to take care of those folks.
“But able-bodied people, if they don’t work, they shouldn’t eat,” he said.
This is, of course total B.S. According to CBPP: “The overwhelming majority of SNAP recipients who can work do so. Among SNAP households with at least one working-age, non-disabled adult, more than half work while receiving SNAP — and more than 80 percent work in the year prior to or the year after receiving SNAP. The rates are even higher for families with children — more than 60 percent work while receiving SNAP, and almost 90 percent work in the prior or subsequent year.”
Of course it would not be a TEA party rally without the obligatory attack on the income tax and by extension the IRS, which he compared to Nazi Germany.
