Target has thrown its hefty weight behind a legal defense of same-sex marriage. The favorite stomping ground of open carry “activists” has joined other large companies, including Google, Starbucks, and Nike, in taking a stand against discrimination–a surprising change of pace for a chain that was criticized just four years ago for throwing hundreds of thousands of dollars behind an organization that supported Tom Emmer(R), a vocal opponent of equality, in the 2010 Minnesota governor’s race.
“It is our belief that everyone should be treated equally under the law, and that includes rights we believe individuals should have related to marriage,” Target Executive Vice President of Human Resources Jodee Kozlak wrote on the company’s blog.
Conservatives, naturally, are outraged.
Interestingly, all of these comments were posted on Facebook, which also openly supports the LGBT community.
