These days, there’s a lot of things that are like Adolf Hitler. Liberals are like Hitler, the ACA is like Hitler, and Obama is like Hitler. In fact, if you ask the right Republican, your neighbor’s cat is probably like Adolf Hitler (it depends: did they vote for that Kenyan Marxist?) Now we can add something else to that list: mini-containers of coffee cream.
The AP reports that a leading Swiss supermarket chain displayed staggering lack of self-awareness and is now apologizing for what it calls an “unforgivable blunder”. That blunder? Selling mini-containers of coffee cream that bear the likenesses of Hitler and Mussolini.
And now you too can answer the question of “would you like cream for your coffee?” with “jawohl!”
The company, Migros, which sells a wide variety of goods ranging from electronics to household goods, says that it will immediately withdraw boxes that contain the mini mugs of Der Fuehrer and Il Duce. They also announced that they would also be breaking ties with Karo-Versand , the Swiss company that designed the collectible series with 55 different motifs. Motifs that included Hitler and Mussolini, because why use apples and flowers when you can decorate your coffee creamers with the personification of genocide and a public domain cartoon characters?
Migros released a statement describing the incident as an internal failure on Wednesday, vowing that they would “tighten our controls for these products drastically.” They also said that their subsidiary Elsa-Mifroma never should’ve delivered the boxes with the items to restaurants.
No statement from Karo-Versand, but perhaps the best response in this situation is “I know nothing! Nothing!”
