Some major news sources (particularly one) have been misleading the American people regarding their health coverage, implying that Obamacare will destabilize the market and cause people’s premiums to rise. They tend to leave out other details such as health insurance companies who routinely alter consumer’s plans every year — and this is not a new result of the Affordable Care Act.
Before health care reform, premiums were shooting through the roof and people were being dropped from their plans every day. But suddenly, insurance companies want to inform the people about rising premiums. The fact is these systematic cancellations of individual policies did not begin with Obamacare. Health insurance has always remained a single-year policy, and health insurance companies, through their policies, pursue the best way to impose more health care to the consumer. This includes a rise in premiums.
Right now, health insurance companies are still undermining the power of the ACA and taking advantage of deprived and uninformed citizens by marketing substandard products. Insurance companies continue to play the role of the bad guy. They refuse to inform customers of the possibility of greater deals on the exchanges by rolling customers automatically to more expensive plans after cancelling their existing plans. They continue to insist this is “due to the ACA,” and deliberately mislead their customers while playing off the political confusion surrounding the ACA.
America has never been more ready for the government to take the lead and expose this corporate negligence.
