On Monday morning, Lakeland, Florida city commissioners voted 5-2 to request that the Mayor Howard Wiggs ask Utility Committee member Steven Wade to resign after incredibly racist remarks came out of his mouth at a public meeting.
Specifically, Wade shockingly said (out loud!) at the meeting on September 4th:
“Here in Lakeland we’re seeing everything. Our black community in the northwest section — not just the gangs, but just a culture that has really gone backwards, almost like animals.”
He continued, adding that black teenagers just let anyone knock them up — something that is infecting the good, white areas, as well. “It’s not just the gang problem, it’s the teenage girls. We’ve got to get them to say no and quit having these babies. The culture in that community is spreading into other parts of Lakeland.”
The two dissenters, Commissioners Jim Malless and Keith Merritt, voted nay not because they support Wade — but because they want him fired instead.
Wade has offered whatever semblance of an apology of which he is capable. “When I used the word that I used and I apologize for that,” Wade said. “As soon as it came out of my mouth. I knew that was wrong.”
However, he contends that his assessment of African-Americans is correct — he just used the wrong word.
“Except for me using the word animals, everything else was true. They aren’t acting like human beings should be acting.”
The Mayor met with Wade over the weekend. wade “apologized” for his remarks, and offered to resign if needed.
Residents aren’t quite buying Wade’s fauxpology. “I am a citizen in Northwest Lakeland and no fur is growing on me,” said Arthur Jordan, a pastor at First Baptist Church. “I do not accept his apology.”
Unsurprisingly, a glance at Wade’s Facebook profile reveals extreme right-wing leanings, an irrational need to blame President Obama for everything, and a propensity for taking cheap shots at Nancy Pelosi — he hates them Muslims, too!
His “likes” are typical of “not-racists” who speak their version of “truth” about black people. He seems to get the majority of his news from the Tea Party News Network, FOX, The Blaze, and other misinformation fountains, while idolizing the likes of Paul Ryan, Michelle Malkin, Mitt romney, Sarah Palin, and Bill O’Reilly.
We expect Wade’s resignation, soon — followed swiftly by his new anchor position on FOX News.
