A federal investigation has been launched into the University of Southern California after multiple students accused campus police of refusing to prosecute rapists for various unacceptable reasons. According to one of the complaints, made by an anonymous student, she was told:
“Because he stopped, it was not rape. Even though his penis penetrated your vagina, because he stopped, it was not a crime.”
Another complainant alleges that after she reported a sexual assault an officer told her not to “go out, get drunk and expect not to get raped.”
The complaints are part of a larger suit filed against the institution by at least 13 USC students who claim their assailants were not charged after they reported cases of rape to school police and other authorities.
