The Republicans in Texas recently passed a party plank that endorsed the so-called “gay reparative therapy,” which is fancy talk for “this won’t work but let’s clap our hands really hard and pretend anyway.” Their “therapy” has about as much in common with real therapy as a Republican government does a small government, and as a result, it’s widely discredited.
And it was a prime target for Jon Stewart.
Stewart mocked the GOP “assholes” for backing the practice by offering strange and warped methods of enforcing the law, which included hooking genitals up to electrodes and making people sniff a jar of their own feces whenever they’re feeling attracted to someone of the same sex. And the Anti-Gay Republicans were likely taking notes, but only so they could tell the people at church what those horrible gays do, not for personal purposes.
Stewart took on Perry’s idiotic claim that being gay is like being an alcoholic and also found it amusing that a particular Texas legislator said that the anti-gay platform was about being “pro-choice” where people’s health is concerned, proving once and for all conservatives in general and Republicans in particular have no idea what “choice” actually means.
Stewart concluded by saying that “being gay is not a choice, but being a Texas Republican is,” and offering the suggestion that they “shit in a jar and sniff it” so that “hopefully it’ll remind you of what assholes you’re being.”
