Last night Stephen Colbert made a mockery of Mary Fallin, Oklahoma’s Republican Governor, for her naked attempts to keep her state from making progress on marriage equality.
“Thankfully, one brave state — Oklahoma — is fighting to remain Oklahetera,” Colbert satirically said. The Colbert Report host tackled Governor Fallin’s attempts to keep same-sex spouses of the National Guard members in her state from receiving the marriage benefits that Secretary of State Chuck Hagel promised them as part of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell being abolished.
“Sorry LGBT crowd, you got greedy,” Colbert joked, “If you would have let us keep Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, nobody would know if your same-sex partner was gay.”
Colbert hammered Fallin as only he could for her strange response to criticism — she decided to simply stop processing spousal benefits for all couples, regardless of their sexuality, forcing couples to take in some cases four-hour round trip drive to a Federally run facility.
“It’ll be fun! You can play a game of ‘Eye Spy an Arbitrary Denial of My Rights.'”
