In an op-ed for the Rapid City Journal last month, South Dakota GOP Rep. Betty Olson let loose a little humor that probably won’t help her party’s struggle to recast its image with minority voters.
After some rather banal musings about the bad weather that made a “soupy mess” at a local rodeo event, the goings on at her local Labor Day parade, and some high school football news, Olsen turned to the subject of ISIS and the beheading of American journalist, Steven Sotloff.
This morning ISIS and the Muslim Brotherhood warned the United States that if the United States continued meddling in Iraq, Libya, and other potential hot spots in the Middle East, they intend to cut off America’s supply of 7-11 and Motel 6 managers.
If this action does not yield sufficient results, cab drivers will be next, followed by Dell, AT&T and AOL customer service reps.
Finally, if all else fails, they have threatened not to send us any more presidents either.
It’s gonna get ugly, people.
Considering that many of Olsen’s constituents are likely 7-11 owners, Motel 6 managers, taxi drivers and customer service reps who loosely fall into the demographic she subtly hints at, it’d be interesting to hear how she explains her failed attempt at humor to them.
We don’t even want to know what demographic she’s putting the President in.
