New York City police officer Eugene Donnelly says he is innocent of charges that he broke into a woman’s apartment in his underwear, beat her severely, and then chugged a gallon of milk from her refrigerator in June. The New York Daily News reports that mere hours after receiving the Police Combat Cross, the second highest honor an NYPD officer can get, Donnelly was severely intoxicated and sleeping it off at a friend’s house.
Sometime before day-break, Donnelly is accused of breaking into a neighboring apartment. According to the victim, an unnamed 30 year old woman, Donnelly Broke the chain on her apartment door and appeared at her bedside wearing only his underwear.
“Sometimes I’m a good guy, but sometimes I’m a bad guy,”
Donnelly told the woman before before throwing her to the floor and “pummeling her about the head.” The victim promptly reported the attack to police who then released a wanted flyer featuring an image of a bare chested Donnelly that was captured on the apartment complex surveillance system.
A coworker from the 46th Precinct in the Bronx recognized Donnelly from the flyer. He was arrested soon after, stripped of his gun and badge, and placed on “modified duty.” Donnelly, 27, is facing misdemeanor charges of assault, criminal trespass and criminal mischief. If convicted he could only serve up to a year in jail. His next hearing is Dec. 10.
