In a front-page article in Friday’s Washington Post, there is a love letter to the Senate Minority Leader.
The headline reads: In a crisis, Republicans again turn to Mitch McConnell.
Let’s not forget that this is a “crisis” that members of the GOP created.
Let’s also not forget that this is the man, a Senate leader, who proclaimed his only goal after the 2008 election was to make certain that Barack Obama wasn’t re-elected.
How did that turn out?
Let’s deconstruct this. Forget Kentucky and the citizens writ large of this nation. One of the leaders of the United States Senate only cared about defeating a man who had just won by 7 percentage points ( a ten-point differential is considered a landslide).
McConnell by his own actions and words has fed the Tea Party beast in the GOP and has never taken them to task, in being celebrated in a publication long thought to be progressive, or at least balanced.
Well, the Senate Majority Leader has saved the day.
And all it cost was $3 billion for an over-budget, much delayed project in his state.
Good luck with the primary.
