A California man was arrested on a charge of felony animal cruelty after he was caught throwing a 6-month-old pit bull into the street by its leash. Robert Emmett Martin, 54, was abusing his puppy when African American Lindsey Cooks began recording the crime with his cell phone.
Martin appears shirtless in the cell phone video, and can clearly be seen throwing the puppy around by its leash, swinging it in the air, and slamming it on the ground. When Cooks confronted Martin, things took a turn for the worse–not only is Martin the sort of person who would abuse an animal–but he’s a teensy bit of a “not-racist.”
“I’m a human being, you know,” Cooks told KTLA. “And I couldn’t see even a human being being treated like that, especially a dog can’t defend itself, a little dog. So, I had to do something.”
“I had asked him to stop to, ‘Hey, man, stop doing the dog like that,’ and all he could say was ‘Shut up, n*gger,’” Cooks said. He added that only a “racist pig” would act that way. “If you look at the video there’s something really wrong with the guy. You don’t need animals, you don’t need kids around him or nothing. Nobody.”
The pit bill, Daisy, was turned over to animal control after being treated by a veterinarian. She is expected to recover. Martin faces up to three years in prison. He has been released on bail, and has pleaded not guilty.
