California Republicans have proven once more just how unscrupulous they are. Recently, GOP Assembly members sent out information to their constituents regarding health insurance. Their trick: instead of directing people to CoveredCA.com to register, they sent them to their own fake version at the URL CoveringHealthCareCA.com. The information on their version of the website presents links to negative articles with skewed messages in an attempt to turn people away from signing up for health insurance before they reach the official exchange site.
On the fake site, clicking the “Don’t have health insurance” tab on the front page, redirects users to a page that emphasizes penalties for not having insurance, while failing to provide any information on the benefits of the Affordable Care Act. The California GOP took the time to create a “penalty calculator” on their page – as opposed to anything helpful, like a premium calculator. The site purports to “explain” to young people that by obtaining insurance, they’ll be subsidizing sick people.
These are elected officials who are intentionally trying to make the California health exchange fail. Perhaps they are purposely trying to kill their own voters. Who knows? It’s not like we haven’t seen them do crazier things.
