Yikes! The GOP’s “reaching out” to women again, this time with their totally-not-sexist ad against U.S. Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick (D-Ariz.)… Which shows her as a pair of shapely legs toting some shameless baggage.
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC)’s ad shows a stick-thin model in a gray skirt and high heels sashaying across the frame and trailing a suitcase on wheels behind her, as the voice-over intones:
“When Ann Kirkpatrick comes back from Washington, she carries a lot of baggage. President Obama’s baggage.”
Come on, Republicans … Sexist much?
The ad then goes on to tar Kirkpatrick with Obama’s brush, claiming she panders to him just because she want a functioning government and healthcare for her constituents. Yet, despite her votes to raise the debt ceiling and enact Obamacare, Huffington Post reports Kirkpatrick is one of eight Democrats most likely to vote against the Democratic Party line.
Tucson.Com wryly comments:
We wonder whether the NRCC would ever air such an ad featuring a male candidate’s lovely legs.
Plus, come on, guys… These legs don’t look like they could even possibly belong to Kirkpatrick. The NRCC couldn’t find a model whose taste in clothes and body type more closely match Kirkpatrick’s? Apparently, these sexists can’t handle the concept of a woman appearing in a commercial who looks like a normal woman, even for a political ad. Kirkpatrick looks fit, but she’s definitely older and heavier than the model — as many women are.
Besides, the Arizona congresswoman definitely strikes us as more of a peasant skirt and pantsuits kind of gal.
Watch the GOP’s sexist “baggage” ad against Rep. Kirkpatrick.
