Lee Bright is the Tea Party challenger for Lindsay Graham’s Senate seat in the South Carolina primary. He is also a secessionist who has called for another civil war to overthrow the tyrannical federal government and restore freedom in the U.S.
In an interview with the TEA Party Express podcast recently, Mr. Bright opined that Congress should impeach and remove any federal judge who rules in favor of marriage equality as a tactic to “encourage” other judges to do “the right thing.”
In a discussion of the recent ruling which struck down part of the Utah law against same sex marriage, the man who God told to oppose Graham said, “Congress ought to stand up and do its job and impeach one of these federal judges. And I think when you do that, being a federal judge is a pretty good gig, and I think if you’ll impeach just one, the rest of them will do the right thing. And they’ll do it out of necessity, because self-preservation is an instinct that so many folks have.”
Federal judges are appointed for life “during good behavior” and in the entire history of the nation only eight judges have been removed, all for serious crimes or unseemly behavior.
In one of his typically bizarre rants against what he perceives as tyranny (basically any law or regulation), he said, “there are institutions that can put you in a room that you can’t harm yourself but you’re not free, and I would rather take the risk and be free.”
He then goes on to say that in Israel they have armed teachers with machine guns to protect the children from terrorism and as a result, there is very little terrorism in that country.
“You look over at Israel, and that’s an armed group of folks over there,” he said. “I mean, they are teachers with machine guns on playgrounds.”
The facts, of course, are quite different. Israel has much stricter gun laws than we have in the U.S. and to obtain a permit to own a gun one must prove you have a good reason, one that does not include hunting, collecting or self-defense.
The guards with the machine guns at schools are military personnel, not teachers. What they are dealing with in regards to school attacks are terrorists, not disaffected people with mental disorders.
