Officials at a Texas Elementary went too far to get the bottom of a poop-related matter, and as a result, parents are understandably furious.
Myfox8.com reports that school officials would routinely find that the gym floor had been smeared with human waste, and in an effort to find the culpable parties, the school decided that there was no line that they wouldn’t cross — including a humiliating violation of the student’s privacy. The officials split the students — boys in to one room, girls into another — and then ordered the groups to remove their pants for an inspection to “see if they could find anything.”
This breach of student dignity has parents understandably inflamed. One student, 11-year old Eliza Medina, told the reporters that it made her feel violated:
I felt uncomfortable and I didn’t want to do it. I didn’t want to, but I had to because all the kids had to.
Maria Medina, Eliza’s mother, told WFAA that the teachers involved should be fired. The district superintendent, Ken Baugh, isn’t defending the actions, and promised an investigation as a result:
That’s not appropriate, and we do not condone that. So you would take disciplinary action.
He said that the investigation should be wrapped up by the end of this week. The incensed parents, however, are planning to speak at the school board meeting on Thursday night.
