Conservative irrelevant windbag Rush Limbaugh said yesterday that ‘practically every’ school shooting can be contributed to the politics of the left. He blustered further, saying that the press loses interest once they come to realize they cannot tie the shooting to the right.
Without citing any sources, Limbaugh goes on to explain that the shootings are all about the perceived inequities of society, not mentioning the widening gap in class wealth (or lack thereof). He also cites no one who is a professional in the mental health arena to back up his balderdash. Yes I really was thinking of another word that starts with ‘B’, but I will leave you, gentle readers, to come to that conclusion on your own.
Facts never play a part in Limbaugh’s ranting. Of all homicides and suicides in which children are victims, less than 2% happen on school grounds. In fact, the institutions themselves are the targets and not individuals, the shooters seem to be addressing perceived wrongs from bullying to social ostracism.
What is clear to anyone with five minutes to spare and access to a search engine is that school shootings are related to the phenomenon of copycatting. The attention that media outlets, such as Rush Limbaugh, give to school shootings encourages more shootings. The link to mental illness and depression and the desire to share pain is clear as well.
Here’s what Limbaugh had to say:
“By the way … another ‘screwel’ (Limbaugh’s word for school) shooting … it’s another kid admittedly inspired by socialists, inspired by what he’s heard about the inequities of our society and upset about it and deciding to pick up a gun and do something about it,” claimed Limbaugh.
“The media doesn’t want you to know this, but practically every one of these young kids shooting up schools is inspired by something to do with leftism, socialism, what have you,” he continued. “Every one of them is.”
“When they can’t tie them to the Tea Party, you don’t hear about them anymore,” Limbaugh concluded. “You hear about the mental health problem . What mental health problem? Liberalism, guaran-damn-teed, is what’s causing this.”
