ARLINGTON, TX — You know it had to happen sooner or later: A member of Open Carry Texas just murdered some half of her family. Do you feel a bit of that kind of warm glow of comforting smug? A bit of the old and golden “I told you so” schadenfreude flowing through the veins like intellectual and moral heroin? It’s okay…you’re allowed it. Feel better? And now…that moment is passed. Because an innocent girl is dead, brutally murdered at the hands of her psychotic, gun-fetishizing stepmother.

According to babysitter Cara Vannatta, 35-year-old Veronica and Russell Dunnachie were
“…trying to get maybe a divorce, but I didn’t know it was going to go this far,” Speaking of the family’s children, “I loved them so much; I just can’t believe this happened.”
And what happened was this: At about 2 p.m. on December 10th, police recieved a call about a domestic shooting at the family’s home on the 2800 block of Edinburgh street. They rushed to the home, where the couple lived with four children. Three were theirs together, and the eldest daughter was Russell’s child from a previous marriage.
When they got there, they found two bodies. One, Russell, and the other his daughter from the previous marriage. Both had been shot from close range inside the home, possibly with the very sidearm in this picture:
However, what police didn’t find in the home was Veronica herself. No, she wasn’t off carrying AK-47s around Target…she had driven herself to Millwood Hospital, a local mental facility and substance abuse treatment center. She was taken to jail directly from there, and remains in lockdown, without bond as of right now.
It’s unclear as to exactly why she drove herself to the mental health facility afterward. Perhaps she had substance issues; meth is pretty popular in Texas. Maybe she had a legitimate mental illness; though the same could probably be said of most members of Open Carry Texas. And most other OC groups, for that matter.
Our bet, though: A setup for an insanity plea, a way of staying out of the county jail, or both. The latter endeavor obviously failed, but she’ll undoubtedly try to get off on insanity. Again, as most open carry groups do.
Veronica’s murdered stepdaughter…she wasn’t available for comment on the matter.
We’ll update you later on this developing story, but in the meantime, two parting thoughts:
- Families butchered by Moms Demand Action: Zero.
- Think about who’s sitting next to you at Chipotle.
