Neil Munro, writer for the muck sack known as The Daily Caller, tried with much reaching and great effort to compare a picture of the First Family’s two Portuguese Water Dogs seated at a set table to Marie Antoinette and her upper class disdain for the poor and starving of France.
Munro writes, “Bone appétit!,” the aides added to the insensitive tweet, using the language of France’s queen Marie Antoinette, who was executed by radicals in 1793.”
Now that you’re done cooing at the cuteness that is Bo and Sunny Obama, let’s talk about two dogs posed at a lovely table where there is no food. Because dogs don’t eat at the dinner table. I also noticed that’s not the Reagan china, which had thick bands of signature red and heavy gold borders with the Presidential seal in the center in gold, so some unfortunate First Lady needs to be held accountable for raising the donations necessary to ensure White House guests are not eating on chipped plates.
Munro makes a point of noticing one of the dogs is wearing a necklace. Yep, I have half a dozen that I bought at my fave mall clothing store. Big chunky gaudy jewelry, that’s me, and apparently the First er… girl dog loves it too. Bo is wearing a bow. Those crazy people with their fixations on animals, I tell ya, like President Bush’s newest paintings. That a one-time president would not be out using his influence to make the world a better place but instead spends his time painting puppy pictures is jaw-dropping.
To attempt to connect the number of people on welfare to a table NOT set with food but with two family pets is just silly. Who is it cutting welfare? Who is giving more tax breaks to the rich but not creating any jobs? Who is deregulating federal agencies responsible for water and air quality in the US? Will the next picture be of Mrs. Obama taking a drink of water coupled with a picture of a thirsty child in West Virginia with the caption “LET THEM DRINK WATER!” We’d really like to see Mr. Munro make a case for the GOP handling of the water spill in West Virginia by blaming Obama.
Munro finishes his little exercise in stretching by calling the dog “palace dogs”, as though these animals are somehow more pampered, more privileged than anyone else’s beloved mutt or stray cat that’s managed to wriggle their way into our hearts. Must have been a slow news day over at The Daily Caller that Munro thought it was a good idea to try to address poverty and unemployment by pointing out the family pets sat still for a staged pic.
Might we suggest next time simply addressing poverty and unemployment with oh, I don’t know… FACTS?
Editor’s Note: The article has been update to reflect that the Obama’s dogs are not poodles, but Portuguese Water Dogs.
